Is there a bot for creating reminders on Lemmy? Say for example I see a comment that I would like to be reminded of in 3 months, I could reply to the comment with “remindme 3 months” or “remindme February 2, 2025” and on Feb 2, I get a direct message in my inbox reminding of the comment with a link.

Not everybody’s brain works like yours and some may find it helpful to be able to do reminders within lemmy.

It would be a great idea if added to an app, I just don’t think it belongs in the comment section. It will needlessly bloat the comments for a seriously small minority and be detrimental to the experience.

And lets be honest, its mostly laziness or not knowing how easy it is to use a calendar. The amount of users that can use lemmy but cannot share or copy/paste into a calendar because their brain works different is clearly very low and probably non-existant.

Ask it from the app devs, I’m sure one of them will see the use in it. No need to force it on us.

Habits can be built and rebuilt. I’ve known a disappointing amount of people who refuse to use a calendar for reminders out of pride and end up being all over the place in the end.

Uh, I use a calendar for reminders and frankly that’s precisely why I don’t want to use one for Lemmy reminders. It’s clogged enough already with stuff that’s actually important.

let’s say you’re on an android phone. you click share, if possible with the url of your home instance, pick calendar, choose a date and save. that seems much better than controlling a bot.
