Lemmy’s user base is pretty interesting, you will find interesting discussions in pretty much most communities. However, if don’t find something interesting, don’t be afraid to start a discussion on your own. Coming from Reddit I used to be afraid of the harassment, but Lemmy is a safer space ❤️

Some general pointers:

1. Beehaw is a good place to look for interesting discussions
2. If you find an interesting comment, take a look at the author’s profile, chance is they have more interesting stuff for you to find
3. Filter by subscribed and hot/active
4. Look for opinion articles

Is this what autism feels like?

Sometimes yes, a lot of us feel isolated, struggle with socialization and connecting with others. Othen it helps to find other ND people, they are just as interested in whatever niche topic you are thinking about.

PS Yesterday, I started a post on AskLemmy after pondering about how technology and science is changing at a faster pace than people (mostly professionals) can adapt.

That sounds a bit misleading, the server implementation is FOSS too, at any time someone could setup their own instance.

There is Alovoa, it’s open source, still has a small user base, but you don’t have anything to lose…

Typing in python leaves a lot to be desired… Being looking at peps for quite some time, but it’s really hard for the language to make progress without breaking compatibility.

Hopefully at some point MOJO becomes mature enough to use in a professional setting.

Unless you are using groovy (jenkins), then you are running the pipeline to find syntax errors.

I have serious sleep issues so I heavily really on my alarm app, I need features like:

1. wake-up captcha
2. wake-up time randomising
3. the ability to load a playlist, or play a podcast episode
4. sleep tracking

It may sound boring, but I would appreciate a good open source alarm app for android.

Social interactions are totally draining for me, but I cannot understand a person until I had a face to face communication with them.

It’s easy. First, we ask people to submit a copy of their ID, email, SSN, etc… Then, store them unencrypted to a purely secured database, the is accessible from a php service written 10 years ago.

In general, I don’t like thinking in absolutes. It’s not like everyone will read the article or everyone won’t, some people will and some won’t.

There it helps me to break down to more categories:

1. People that will read the article, understand it, and have critical thoughts to share.
2. People that will read the article, understand it, but won’t have anything to add or critize.
3. People that will read the article, but won’t understand it.
4. People that won’t read the article, but would if something caught their attention (like a question on the comments).
5. People that won’t read the article, but would read the comments.
6. People that won’t read the article, but will comment something interesting about the title or the discussions in the comments.
7. People that won’t interact with the post at all.
8. Other possible categories I haven’t considered.

The telephone game is really helpful to understand how interactions between people of the categories above will go. However, keep in mind that the goal is not necessarily 100% accurate transmission of the author’s message. On the contrary, it’s possible people are looking for different interpretations, relevant information, criticism, and/or a laugh.

Personally, I really like it when people provide quotes they find interesting along with their own analysis. An example would be:

To allow? What? Was Australia requiring/forcing everyone to answer calls from bosses at all hours?

Australia will introduce laws giving workers the right to ignore unreasonable calls and messages from their bosses outside of work hours without penalty, with potential fines for employers that breach the rule.

So you cannot be fired anymore for not answering your boss’s 2AM call. It nice to make to make progress, but the bar is so low it’s a tavern in Hades…

I mean you spend the time to read the article already, why not help someone else save that time?

Most people get over it during uni when everyone is arguing over “X vs Y” language or “vim vs productivity”. At some point you realize how pointless these debates are and continue with your life.

For anyone wanting to publish their code, remember it’s probably better than most OSS code. If you don’t believe that go read a python or js library:

1. python’s celery for example has hard coded timeouts on every control operation
2. react mui has so overcomplicated types that they break webstorm inspections
3. I once found a typing hack on an python library where they reversed a string in order to conditionally import types only when mypy was running in order to avoid cyclic imports.

I still love those libraries, use them at my work and will recommend them to anyone with similar needs as I.

Last but not least, if you aren’t using git something is wrong with you 🤣.

good question, probably the transpiled code does not match the optimized js. Maybe, if they targeted the same js version as js version they are benchmarking, the results would be equivalent?

Also, if they are using a node version with ts support, it will compile the ts before execution which means they are measuring the impact of the compiler, which can be a lot for small snippets.

last week I had misconfigured my auto-format and it was leaving commas and whitespaces. The amount of “WHAT HAVE YOU DONE???” comments I got were of the chart.

There was a linter in place, I literally could not merge unless the issues were fixed, yet people felt compelled to point them out.
