honestly, this is a great point in favor of arguing a switch to FF. if all the plugins that are now getting wiped from chrome move over to FF and tell users they are now availablr on FF, and users advertising just use X plugin on FF to solve glaring issues with chrome, then there is no incentive to stick with chrome anymore.

well to be fair bitcoin is on point as a decentralized currency.

bs. discord is absolute trash for anything but live chatting. it does nothing different from plain old irc with a bnc and bots. they just took irc and made it easy for stupid people to use and slapped voice comm on top; which also already existed. using it as an archive, broadcast and support system is like trying to use a hammer to screw in a screw. people just use discord because people use discord. just like people just use facebook because people use facebook.

if you want to manage a community, you should use discourse. it’s the most modern alternative. if you want a public chat, use any chat you want that supports public chat, the only difference between all of them is what level of privacy they provide.

There are currently a wave of people moving certain activities to Band of all fucking things (using it side by side with facebook due to facebook policies). It’s basically a shitty korean clone of facebook but slower and with less stability and even less features.

They could have picked ANY of the platforms actually designed for the intended purpose. But Band? It’s the OPPOSITE of useful.

our taxes goes to fund resources and development. and a large part of those taxes goes directly to microsoft so our governments can maintain windows and office installs instead of developing a public solution; its a problem because we aren’t actually getting anything from the taxes that goes to microsoft; which, unless you live in the US, is practically illegal unless specifically hiring a domestic corporation to supply the product (good ol’ privatization).

Yeah, even if searching content is atrocious, and it focuses on the latest posts by design (like reddit) so you have the same questions posted multiple times a day. And the tool doesn’t even support the goal of the users. It’s still a more appropriate tool than discord. Plus, it has the userbase.

besides. discord is useless as a reddit replacement. discord is not indexed and you cannot retrieve the data publicly; much like facebook groups which would be the same thing. i mean; who doesn’t (or didn’t) use +reddit in their google searches for the past 2 years?
