I’ve tried this out a bit recently, it runs really well but I can’t figure out why it exists. I don’t really understood the appeal of “everything apps”.
Delta Chat is still really good though, I definitely recommend people check it out.
Edit: didn’t realize there were some multiplayer games, being able to send a chess invite is actually pretty cool.

To each their own, and use whatever tool you prefer, but moving away from google and proprietary software is a lot easier than people think.
Aurora is a full replacement for the play store. I’ve been using fdroid as my only source for apps for years now. It has everything I need.
Same as tumblr, still around, but largely irrelevant.
Syncthing will also work with Nextcloud.

For 24$/year porkbun has been really easy!
Even instances that don’t federate are compatible with fedi clients afaik.
That’s to say, if Threads is truly compatible, you should be able to use any fedi client. I doubt it actually works.
I use Matrix with friends and family, we all moved from signal.
I made accounts for my family members on my homeserver and told them to sign in, so they didn’t have to register (slightly easier on boarding). They all figured it out with minimal hand-holding.
For my friends and coworkers, I just tell them “make an account on X instance, its a good one”, and they all figured it out.

It’s certainly not a scam, and it is a reliable, private messaging app, don’t get me wrong. It’s just not decentralized/federated, and that’s the issue for me.
Gandi was recently purchased, and and is slowly going down the drain. I moved all my domains and emails to porkbun.
