I don’t hate it. What rubs me the wrong way is the $20 ask to remove ads, when alternative apps exists that don’t charge or even have ads yet. It feels far too steep for what it’s designed to handle, compared to Reddit. $5 would have been reasonable as an early bird deal, then $10 afterwards would have made more sense. Then add a tip jar for those who feel generous.

On iOS iPad, the subscription feed doesn’t update/refresh after watching a video. The video remains in the queue (same place), with the red progress bar showing that it’s been watched or partially watched. Pulling down to refresh does nothing. Plus, I don’t want to watch every video from every subscription.

So instead, I use the algorithm in a way that benefits me. I let it suggest videos to watch until I feel it’s lost its way. Then I have to go and find videos from my primary interest to get the algorithm back on track.

I am finding more time IRL now that I’ve converted to Lemmy. I’m learning a new language as well as learning chess. I think it’s because much of the new posts aren’t showing up in ALL/Subscribed so I end up consuming much of it faster than Reddit.

I believe Boost is a Kbin thing.

It’s a small but very specific, active minority of the total reddit pie. This is why Reddit won’t go away. They have enough of a core audience that doesn’t care about how bad the official app or web page may be. It’s just good enough for them, which is all they need to scratch their reddit itch.

You’re right. This post appears to be closer to when the tech was invented vs when they became mainstream. CDs were invented in 1982 but usage really didn’t take off until adoption in the 90s.

People are still in the migration process. Talk about Reddit will NOT go away, because it’s the elephant in the room and it hasn’t gone away.
If you were around for the DIGG migration to Reddit, it’s going to be similar. It will take a LONG TIME before you stop seeing Reddit related content here. It’s just going to be a little less over time.

I doubt it will ever go away to the level of DIGG, unless Reddit completely implodes, which it won’t. Reddit in its current state is still usable for the silent majority of users via desktop or official app, like it or not. DIGG rn is completely useless.

What we can do is support each other, create and share meaningful content here. Migrate your interests, and if it doesn’t exist, create it or someone else can. Lemmy growth and interactions have exploded, even over the past week. Give it time, and enjoy the fact that we don’t have to worry about Reddit screwing itself at the cost of their users.
