That’s a very neat idea, to be honest. I hadn’t thought of that!

Unfortunately this doesn’t work in Portugal. Most sales people don’t have any sort of training in the products they sell and they are heavily pressured into selling services rather than products. Your budget is 200 euros? They’re going to try to suggest you a 100 euros product and then try to get you to buy extended warranty and/or insurance.

Thanks for sharing, I’ll definitely start asking there!
The mechanical keyboard topic was just an example. Because I’m kinda into mechanical keyboards, I can instantly spot the obviously bad recommendations. If the topic was something like microphones or washing machines, I’d be toast.
Having free and open source software is not enough for some people. The dev needs to publish it in a Foss platform, use a Foss operative system, a Foss ide, mild political views. Free, quality and high maintained software is not good enough these days. /s
I don’t know how you read my comment and concluded that I approve racism or homofobia. It’s these kind of comments that push people away.
Vegan and non vegans are are at the opposite extremes. One only eats meat, the other never eats meat. You can’t insult people into your way. No one wants to have a conversation with you when you just randomly accuse them of homofobia. In your future attempt try going easier and with baby steps. People are more likely to stop eating meat if they take it one step at a time. This ridiculous expectation that someone must change their lifestyle over night or they’re racists… This isn’t the way, statistically speaking. But alas, this is a pointless discussion because you already know this and just want to fight with a stranger on the internet. Have a nice day.
This is not how you get people to join your ideas, this is how you push them away further.
That’s a very liberal use of the word “objectively”.
The problem is that Russia has far more resources than Ukraine and they have an upper hand in this war. They do not wish to leave empty handed. As sad as it is, for peace to happen Ukraine is going to have to lose something.
Putin already said he doesn’t want peace when the opponent has a shortage of ammo so this discussion is irrelevant anyway.
I wish we did more for Ukraine, it’s deeply saddening to see the news :(
The cost of making a new request for the rest of the news is higher than just returning the full news. The only use case where this makes sense is where news are behind a paywall and you just want to show a teaser to Anonymous readers.
I don’t agree with this. It creates a monetary barrier to starting a new channel. If uploading costs money the number of uploads is going to reduce considerably, no one likes to throw money away.
But the source isn’t WHO, it’s the Chinese government…
I’m sure you can Google china warcrimes as well. Assuming you’re not inside the great firewall of China, that is. Let’s not pretend China is good just because US is bad.
Often Times even more, depending on the domain “extension”.
You can always pick food that is not supposed to be hot such as poke bowl or sushi! I usually have a good experience with indian food as well.
Fat shaming is such a bad analogy, I wouldn’t dream to mock someone for their body.
Mocking someone for the factually wrong “theory” they scientifically disproved themselves… That’s fair game.
I also find disgusting that people have to pay to use the Reddit app of their choice. It sucks. Rewarding Reddit for their outrageous stance is bad.
These folks, however, are willing to pay a subscription, receive ads and not have any NSFW communities. Imagine how bad the official app is that people would rather pay for less content. Imagine defending that these people shouldn’t be able to have alternatives that suit them better. Jeez.
You seem to forget that without third party apps we would not have had a mobile Reddit experience for a long long time. The official Reddit app, in fact, was once a third party app. The subscription is only necessary because Reddit decided to nuke all other apps by pricing them out of the game. You really shouldn’t side with Reddit on this one

I miss some Reddit communities, to be honest. There are no communities here for most of my hobbies and that brings down my enjoyment of the platform. Most things that spark joy in my life are not here.
Another thing that has been bumming me out is that people are way more aggressive now. Lemmy was a very friendly and welcoming environment, even in the most toxic topics you could think of. Lately I find a lot of elitist comments where anyone that doesn’t have the same opinion or needs is objectively an idiot.
On the positive side, I switched to Linux because of Lemmy! And I’m (still) learning Rust!
