  • Gotcha. I had a feeling something around how Mastodon doesn’t support ActivityPub Groups (yet?) would be where things are going on. Congrats on piefed, by the way. I’ll start studying the codebase now as I’m keen to understand how server-to-server communication works more deeply than I do now. Sending Announce(?) and fetching stuff from other servers…

When I look at the ActivityPub Note object (via curl -H 'Accept: application/activity+json https://hachyderm.io/@otl/111887721960075860) I see:

So I’m assuming an Announce was posted to the shared inboxes at lemmy.ml, lemmy.world and ttrpg.network… hmm… I better start reading!

  • My old workplace had a person exactly like this. We all had enough of the bullshit, but our boss didn’t care. In the end, I moved on.

Later I realised it wasn’t just that one person, it was actually a bad culture overall which wasn’t being moderated well. The managers were just really bad at their job. So I’m really happy I moved on.

There are lots of cool Linux and OSS communities out there. Even if they are not exactly about the particular distro you are interested in, there will be ways to learn and share about it.

  • 5 years ago I was called out to a company in Sydney, Australia that ran some mail (paper!) processing software on a machine running Windows 98. They sent out big numbers of lottery tickets around the world.

Another one was a textile manufacturing company running Windows 95. The systems were attached to the internet not because they wanted them to be, but because the admins didn’t have the networking skills to split up the network like that.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they ran some of these online updates on those systems.
