On Linux you can do this with full control via network namespaces. I use vopono to automate it - https://github.com/jamesmcm/vopono

But if you can afford it I’d recommend paying for Proton’s services as they offer a lot together, or a low-end VPS (where you could do it yourself, although be careful to find ones that don’t ban hosting Wireguard, etc. for example). Both are really useful if you want to test making something local available on the Internet e.g. ports for multiplayer games or a webserver prototype.

Another benefit of using network namespaces is that I can just disable IPv6 in the network namespace itself.

On Linux you can use network namespaces for the same effect (and then a firewall) - this way it doesn’t affect other applications running.

I do it with vopono.

ProtonVPN for port forwarding, Mullvad for easy usage (Wireguard on Linux).

One of my friends had the newer one and Calibre still worked fine.

I’ve had the 2 earlier models (original and paperwhite) and both worked fine.

Just make sure to download epub or mobi files as they’ll have decent formatting compared to PDF, txt, etc.

With the epub support on the new model you can even email epubs to it IIRC, but I never tried it, Calibre is the best.

They weren’t distributed directly by Valve though, there wasn’t a standard hardware configuration, and SteamOS 3 and Proton didn’t exist then.

I think with the strength of the Steam Deck now it’d really help to solidify the Valve ecosystem. Why buy a PlayStation and re-buy your games when you can just use Steam?

Because it’s a lot of work to check that repos contain no confidential information, and to sync internal and external repos if there is a need for some internal-specific stuff. Especially when most software is very specific - e.g. I work in data pipelines for accounting and our logic is specific to our accounting processes.

I think some industries like video games should absolutely do it though, where the turn-around time on products is much faster. The main objection is that it just helps competition (and asset-swap scammers, etc.) but I think that’s missing the bigger picture of more tooling and assets helping to grow the industry and labour pool as a whole.

But the multiple jumps make it very slow.

1000 EUR is steep though, maybe see if you can negotiate it down to 100-200 and just pay it? Or just ignore it and see if they actually go to court.

It’s an awful situation though. I had O2 there destroy my credit score after I closed my account (which could only be done via fax - lol Germany) and left the country, but they were still trying to settle the final month’s payment of ~20 EUR for over a year.
