I have a soft-protector, the one you need to apply with a small spray of alcohol, and the fingerprint reader works just fine for me.

I’d see it as a tradeoff between the convenience of silent updates of Google Play and incentivizing people to go for F-Droid.

MKV is just the container though, what really matter are the codecs and their parameters. Transforming the container (aka remuxing) doesn’t require a lot of processing power, and in fact some platforms like Plex will remux an MKV to another format on-the-fly to another container if the player doesn’t natively support MKV but otherwise support the codecs used inside with little effort required.
Sucks to be them.
You technically don’t need to accept their EULA to access these unauthenticated endpoints, it’s how most third-party YouTube clients like NewPipe are able to do whatever they want.
