Actually no, a VPN does not protect your computer at all.

Edit: Neither your privacy. You’re mostly tracked though cookies and other identifiers on the application level. A VPN only helps to hide your IP address on the network layer, but you don’t really need that.

So apparently my suggestion was wrong and the update request is sent, it is just not received properly. You said you also tried pressing the ikea button meanwhile to prevent it from going to sleep mode, so I’m kinda clueless here too. Maybe it helps to re-pair the switches? or just waiting for the update to be loaded by the switches themselves, which can take some days. zigbee2mqtt seems at least otherwise correctly configured to serve an ota update.

In those logs it states ‘available’ as if the update if found but not triggered. Did you send a manual trigger message like described here in the docs? Neither is “Device didn’t respond to OTA request” in the log, further suggesting that. Sadly the file is cut off in your screenshot though so it’s hard to tell. Could you upload and share the complete log?

Good point. But thinking further I guess saving this data amount is less of a problem than serving it to users. Maybe someone hosting a Lemmy instance can comment on this better, but they’re all pretty busy right now ig ^^

I have found some proxy states useful as well, good idea to make them „house states“

For me, my favourites are definetely some light automations, namingly

• motion detectors and window sensors (where there aren’t insect nets) turning on and off the lights
• adaptive lighting automations setting brightness and shade based on the time

more than that

• turning down the (usually somewhat loud) music in the bathroom when I open the window to the street
• running the vaccuum when I’m not at home
• heating automations adapting to the weather report, presence, time and user preset

my future idea is to copy a nuki opener with an esp-32.
