Yeah, this is why capitalism should be treated like a dangerous dog and kept on a short leash. It can kind of work out for a while when a government restrains it, ensures that legislation exists and is enforced to protect workers, the environment, and consumers. Strong unions are a good sign. This never seems to last though, because the governments get bought eventually.

I am still furious about Brexit on a personal level. Freedom of movement was amazing. It meant that I could just decide to go live and work in an EU country whenever I wanted. I had previously used this to spend a couple of years in Spain and maybe a year in France. I’d been planning a move to Portugal when Brexit took this away from me. All those opportunities gone because of dumb fuckers who didn’t even realise we had them. Ignorant bigoted wankers. Goes without saying I voted remain. I’d be delighted to rejoin, and if it means we adopt the euro that’s fine with me. It won’t happen for at least a decade though, and at my age that’ll be too late for me.
It is not a terrorist organization to go out and cause terror and trouble.

Yeah great innit? I always used to be a reader and I’ve been rediscovering old favourites and reading a bit of new stuff. I have limited screen time after work and life etc but I’ve also been doing the same with films. And there’s a load of games on my list too. I’m not saying reddit was a waste of time, but I’d spend an hour or two a day on there, was constantly in ongoing conversations with a bunch of people. Lemmy is much less so. Social media is good n stuff, I’m gonna stick with Lemmy for a bit - but yeah, books etc :)
Yeah same here. I used to comment on reddit multiple times a day, I comment on Lemmy maybe once or twice a week. There’s just not as much here that inspires me. It’s okay, though, and I’m reading more books.
So completely overlooking the overlying political situation and just thinking about this incident - it’s fuckin horrible.
I’ve been at a whole lot of techno parties back in the day and just imagining these events triggers a real wince in my soul. Remember being off your head at a really good party with your mates and your partner and then imagine this shit happening. I mean, a fuckin rave is pretty much the opposite of a military target.
I’m thinking there’s a lot of criticisms to make on both sides of this conflict and a lot of comments here are focusing on that and overlooking the fucking horror of this incident right here.

I did. Said I’d be leaving when they did the API thing and stuck with it. Missed reddit for a week and then moved on. Sync for Lemmy is fine. Lemmy is quieter but there’s also less bullshit.
Yeah. I was active on reddit for over ten years but I said I’d quit when they did the API thing, so I did. Gotta stick by what you say you’ll do. I missed it at first but then I read a lot more books and was fine. Now sync lemmy has arrived and I’m gonna see how it goes here.
Shame about reddit but it’s become an example of the enshittification that seems to be the recent trend. So fuck it.
This used to be the case with glass bottles in England back in the 80s. Seemed to work well, certainly I and a lot of other kids used to return as many of those bottles as we could to supplement pocket money. These days all the bottles are plastic and there’s no returns policy.
