I saw this but its missing a key feature: daily backups. SMS Backup & Restore can make a backup every day then I can sync the file out to Nextcloud or similar. It also supports Dropbox if that’s your thing.

This and so many others that are irreplaceable because of the Network effect. Google Maps, Uber and so on…
However if you are looking for a self contained app to bring into the Foss ecosystem then I would recommend making a game that you like?
My first game that I bought on Google Play was Osmos making a version of this that is open source would make me happy…
SMS Backup & Restore? Unless there is an alternative that I’m missing? Play store link
Was just trying to watch the original Star Wars from when I was young and found out that it is simply not available for sale. My money is no good! Then I found this Project 4K77.
+1 servarr It took me a while to navigate the (high) sea of information but eventually I got a setup I like. I started, like you say, just running qBit but found the search results limited and tedious to review manually. Get started with Prowlarr if nothing else. No need to jump in the deep end with everything all at once but once you see how it works you can add other components later.
This sentiment would only apply to fictional people in fairytales. I.e. criminals break laws because they are themselves bad and good honest people would never require being imprisoned in the first place. In this hypothetical good/evil then maximum punishment for the evil makes sense. The problem is that real people are more complex than that and so the punishment you are proposing is not proportional to the crimes committed. I know its easier to not have to consider all the variables in every case and just proclaim “to hell with them all!” and call it a day but I hope that we are all not so desperate that we can’t take the time to think about the issues and make a balanced (but more complex) opinion.
Doing pretty much the same thing but using the android app from AuthPass with backup to my Nextcloud. (It uses kdbx to store the passwords)
Another vote for Navidrome.
I think the better analogy would be to ask if it is morally objectionable to pirate the software in the car that you own in order not to pay a subscription to the manufacturer: https://www.theverge.com/2022/11/23/23474969/mercedes-car-subscription-faster-acceleration-feature-price I think this kind of profit maximizing behaviour is a better example for debate because the product (in this case the extra engine power) could only ever be used by the car owner and if the owner pirated the software then they are not depriving anyone else of anything. The only wronged party are the investors who were trying to extract additional profit from the owner of the car.
I am so sorry! I took another look at SMS Import / Export and to my surprise it does support scheduled backups! I had seen it before and had overlooked that feature so disqualified it. I’m going to test it now but if you don’t hear back its probably because I made the switch without issue.
