I’m surprised that open source technology isn’t used at American universities. My local university only has proprietary software which I guess makes sense because of industry standards, but the reality is learning on open source will be more beneficial in the long run.
Whoa, that’s true. Hopefully doesn’t play out that way!
I think “normal society” will not be too embedded into the fediverse. The nature of its framework and the hoops you jump through to get into the verse keeps them out. (It’s absolutely easy btw otherwise I wouldn’t be making this comment)
I kinda like it that way. Plus I don’t have to deal with Nazi’s, racism, and overt data surveillance with my current federation set up so I’ll never go back.

Considering a big problem with conversion on Reddit is people just reacting to the headline I’d say it’s a win. I’ve noticed here when people do comment it’s more nuanced because they actually read the article.
For now. I switched to Lemmy to get over the learning curve now instead of later when they inevitably remove old Reddit. Honestly? Good riddance
At least we can suffer together :)
Holy smokes! I was an avid TikTok person for music before they enshittified it with ads and the shop features. Can’t wait for Loops!
