  • This also seems to have the effect of people getting less salty at being down voted, on reddit I noticed the trend of people verbally expressing salt at even a single down vote editing their whole comment to go “and to the brainlet sheeple soyjack who down voted me I’d like you to know yada yada”

Here I notice less people throwing a verbal tantrum over the idea not everyone likes their opinion. Whenever I get the occasional down vote barrage at a spicy opinion I think “ah well can’t win em all, guess maybe my opinion might be a little shit” not amend my post with “HOW FUCKING DARE YOU YOU FUCKING SUBHUMAN TROGLODYTES”

Support as in the ‘stroke the ego’ sense not ‘help financially put food on the table and heat their home’ sense

I would really like to see lemmy add a ‘direct donation’ button to post and comments that links to their paypal or whatever. I think throwing a dollar or two directly at the person who made the comment or post you really liked is an infinitely better way to support them than throwing that money at a company so that they can award a shiny digital icon above the post.

  • Yes people really do sterilize those areas. Its more common when you need to take a farmers bath. You sterilize because the main cause of stink is not dirt or oil or sweat but microorganisms.

Bacteria that live on your skin colonize and thrive in those areas. That smell is sulphur based waste they produce.

Soap does not kill microorganisms very well on its own, instead it helps the water pick them up and wash them away. If you have a lot of clean running water and a lot of soap it works well enough but doesnt 100% get rid of the colony. sterilizer kills off whats left.

That being said most people (me included) who use sterilizer are cautious about putting it on the groin/taint since those areas are so sensitive but a teeny tiny bit on a realy wet washrag seems to be okay imo. I mainly use it for the pits and just soap and scrub really well down below.

Also about the surgeon thing I’m pretty sure they still use sterilized gloves in a sterilized environment with equipment that’s been through riggerous decontamination. They probably use hand sanitizer too lol.

  • I’ve only ever used one towel for drying and 2-3 washcloths in the shower. If you do your shower right you will come out clean enough. If any body area still stinks up the towel even slightly you havent done a good enough job.

Here’s my wash routine, its simple and effective. Warning it may be a little moein detail than you want to read about.

When washing I soap up the first cloth ad startwith the face then armpits, then crotch, then taint, finally ass crack. Get in there and be thorough, use a lot of soap. I use Dr.bronners 18 in 1 hemp tea tree liquid soap with water in a spray bottle.

Rinse soap, then use sterilizer on your pits and if you are brave enough the tiniest bit on crotch. alcohol is more powerful but quickly dries the skin so its a quick spritz and rinse. vinegar is more gentle for people with sensitive skin.

Retire first wash cloth, get second one soap it up and do a general scrub down of the body. Torso, shoulders, arms, legs, hands and feet, scrub nails. Then do part 1 again (minus the sterilizer)

If you do this properly you will come out so clean one towel is enough. I still start with the face and work my way down to crotch when drying anyways lol. Doing a final sniff test with the towel afterward is the best way to know if you did really well.

I think paying attention to your experience in the moment is a kind of superpower. So many people are wound up in their own minds constantly focused on their life dramas and current problems and what they are anxious about and all that. Learning to get out of your own head, stop the never ending flow of thoughts and impulses, and appreciate the beauty right in front of you. Not zoning out, learning to silence your mind while paying attention to the world through your senses.

Most days if weather permits around the last hour or two before sundown I will swing in my hammock, smoke some pot, and bask in the sunlight. During that time I feel a real medatative sense of peace. It does wonders for my mental health.

  • That’s an old psychological theory that like most psyche theories could have grains if truth but is mostly just yet another unfalsifiable hypothesis. Like babies wanting to bang their parents.

Yeah willpower can be ‘trained’ mostly by not giving into emotional impulse decisions and learning how to say ‘no’ to things you want but dont really need or would actively harm you.

Everyone falls into a spctrum, a few people are ridiculously impulsive to the point of being little more than thoughtless animals living in the moment, a few are ridiculously will powered where they have complete control over themselves but miss out on many fun and spontaneous moments of life due to their need for self control. Most are in the middle, with a bit of a skew towards animalistic impulsivity (that’s usually how babies and families are made)

Most people could use a bit more self/emotional control over impulses, but too much control will rob you of many experiences vital to actually enjoying life.
