If it was as unimportant as you think it is, it wouldn’t be getting ruled on by SCOTUS. It absolutely does matter, especially with groups like the right who continually challenge laws to find ways to loosen or completely negate them.

Because road funding is derived from car registration, states absolutely require you to register your car there if you live and use the car there. The fact that some states allow you to register your car with them even if it’s not your primary residence doesn’t negate this fact. That’s likely for wealthy people who may have multiple homes and cars that they don’t use in other states. This doesn’t mean you can legally register your car in NY when you really live in Iowa to get away from having to register it in Iowa. Iowa is still going to want their registration fees and if police see you driving said NY plated car over and over in Iowa, you’re probably going to get ticketed for it especially if you have an Iowa license.

Partially the reason. I’ve seen between $0.10 and $0.30 per gallon more for credit cards even though merchants only charge <5%. At $4.00/gal, 5% is only $0.02 that they’re paying the credit card companies so they’re making extra profit off that too.

Perhaps “barely a blip” wasn’t the most accurate phrasing but they’re not exactly crushing the competition. GM is at 16.5% while Toyota is #2 (14.4%), Ford #3 and Hyundai is #4. Stellantis isn’t even a US company so I don’t know why people still think of Dodge/Chrysler/Jeep as American brands. The whole market is pretty mixed and these tariffs on Chinese vehicles are protecting the market not US companies.

The bailouts were given to save US manufacturing jobs and all these companies besides Ford have fully paid back those loans.
