Usually it means the parents opted for this. Not that anyone deserved this, I’m just clarifying what it likely means.

I used to think “good” kids had “good” parents and vice versa but I learned this isn’t always the case. I should have realized, I was only such a “good” (quiet) kid because my parents scared me. I didn’t feel safe. But some good parents raise genuinely respectful yet also self-respecting kids.
I feel like almost all of it is blatantly obvious everyone the surgeon with the cooler, since I’m not aware of any child organ harvesting epidemic (and I maybe don’t want to be).
I am still so confused about this one. Is this like a thing? Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised anymore. All the rest is pretty real, we basically “sacrifice” children by giving religions so much power, war, unregulated fast food, etc.
My mom (border of gen x and boomer) explained all the references to me when I was a kid watching Futurama for the first time. Honestly, Futurama and seeking out information related to the references (either my parents would tell me or I’d look it up in the 2010s when I really started having access to the internet) is probably the biggest way I learned about past culture. At this point I’m explaining the references to my kid but he really is just so far removed from it. Because they’re from like 4 generations ago and have been referenced so much since. Still interesting but I do feel like it, “hits different” as the teens say.
I fully quit Reddit in June when Sync couldn’t access Reddit anymore. I sometimes miss aspects of it. I’m trying to do things in the real world more. I’m on Lemmy a few times a week. For a while I was on Lemmy every day, but the content didn’t keep up with my consumption. I do like the content better, but there’s less of it. I’m trying to replace these things with better habits. I spend time online looking for local events and looking up tutorials on YouTube (NewPipe). I’m actually trying to do those events and follow those tutorials. The less content I take in, the better I feel. Trying to develop real world ambitions. It’s a little tricky.
It’s good to keep in mind, but I mean do you sit there through 1-3 minute ads not skipping forward? I don’t watch much television, I mostly watch YouTube. So I watch a lot of it. What good is watching an ad going to do if I’m never going to buy anything from them? Once or twice, I’ve needed or wanted a product or service I thought might be promoted on YouTube, I went and looked for a creator to get a link/code from. But I think I did that two times in the past 9 years of being an avid YouTube watcher, and those times I was not buying the product due to ads, just thought I’d support a creator since I was going to make a purchase. I don’t have sponsor block (I use NewPipe and I don’t feel like learning a new app), but I just skip all the ads by tapping the skip button a bunch. They’re often 2 full minutes.
That’s an offensive skeleton stereotype.
The first one I would think they were just kind of atypical at writing, like: “congrats,” I said. As if they were writing a story.
The “your” is the most harsh, haha.
Edamame is delicious and not only that but extremely healthy.
Ah yes I was thinking they might have been but I couldn’t think of any examples.
But chain chomp is kind of also an enemy, right?
This article clarifies that they sometimes do and sometimes do not include a head covering, so thanks for that clarification. The information under the rationale heading is what I had in mind when making my comment. I was in a Christian cult that controlled the way we dressed, and wanted us all to be very uniform (no personality, that would detract from God’s message) and modest (we’d be tempting men of skirts weren’t long, etc.).
The accompanying image appears to be showing a head covering? I am visually impaired though so correct me if I’m wrong.
I feel like conflicted is the “correct” way to feel. On one hand, the government is literally enforcing clothing laws. On the other hand, this may prevent children from being forced into something they did not choose. I feel like a religion wrapping up your child in cloth so they lose their individually as a human being is cult-like behavior.
It would be better if the religion just wasn’t allowed to make them do this, but then they would just “suggest” women do this. This “suggestion” of course is actually coercion at best.
That made me laugh so hard I woke up my cats.
If you use these trackers and barge in “hey I saw what you did on the internet, you’re in trouble.” then you’re doing it wrong. Kids need guidance. If you were negligent enough to let your kid roam the city without supervision, you SHOULD have a tracker on them. We’re talking about little kids not 16+. Many young kids get themselves killed or groomed or into some kind of cult online. When that happens to young kids, parents are negligent. When 12 year olds get addicted to porn, negligence. You can guide your children without being an asshole. I know a lot of us grew up either completely neglected or completely terrified to make a mistake, but there is an in-between.
“Distributing things I found on the internet this week” videos are what I use lol
Anti vaccine rhetoric has an extremely high correlation to religious people. The commentor was speculating about how these people in the past would have felt about the anti vaccine people today. It’s a valid question. People back then didn’t have access to information or access to much real hope; it’s not surprising they were religious.
