OnlyOffice Desktop Editors…

Simpler interface but lacking more advanced features of MS Office or Libre. It has the features 90% of users actually use though.

Nearly perfect DOCX formatting compatibility. The only thing I have ever noticed when collaborating with Word users is the bullet symbols on list items may be different on my end.

They don’t have boats and really don’t care for going to the beach.

I’m honestly surprised that the US cares about it… There’s near zero economic or strategic concerns left in that region for the US.

The charged particles that affect our electrical and electronic systems have mass and therefore cannot travel at the speed of light… We can see the visible light effects of a flare and know that the slower-moving particles that will cause actual damage are on the way.

WTF is up with the random preview images anyway?

You are unlikely to find a new non-smart TV… the TV manufacturers get kickbacks from the streaming services for bundling their apps.

If you did find one, it would be more expensive than the dumb TV because you don’t have a bunch of streaming services subsidizing the price of the TV for you.

A computer monitor may work for you, or just buy a smart TV and never connect it to a network. You should be able to set it to automatically start up on the last-used input so you never see the built-in UI.

Flying out of Moscow and the plane goes down… what are the odds?

I have no idea if either is more effective.

I’m just used to every little town having a handful of local cops to handle local matters because that’s how it was in the very rural area where I grew up. Neighboring towns and counties did coordinate with each other for assistance when needed, and meet daily to discuss ongoing matters (they tended to each have somebody gather at the same place for lunch), so I expect the overall effectiveness is pretty similar… it’s just independent departments working together while primarily covering their own local areas rather than one giant department directing them all across a large area.

The rural US is often very empty with long distances of pretty much nothing between towns. If those towns want a reliable, responsive police presence, they have to provide it themselves. Keep in mind that average population density is the US is about 1/4th of that in Europe… and it’s far lower than that when you get away from the North-East.

Revenue-generation from traffic tickets, if the town is along a major highway.

In other cases, it’s usually because the towns are just so far away from anything else and you can’t always wait 45 minutes for a cop to drive out from the city.

I miss hanging out at bookstores, with comfortable seating areas and coffee shops and maybe a quiet musician on weekends… met some really smart and educated people that way.

I recently wandered into an old Borders like that where I used to spend a lot of time years ago, which is now a Books-a-Million. It was like being in a K-Mart. Dirty, dimly-lit, product stacked randomly everywhere (including just left on stocking carts abandoned in the aisles), hot because they had the A/C set to barely run at all (everyone inside was sweating), all seating gone, the kitchen area just ripped out and bare plumbing left exposed, with hardly any staff or customers in there at all. The book selection was gutted down to be mostly romance, horror, manga and self-help. I guess that’s what the few people still coming in buy.

It was pretty depressing.
