Because there are still some great communities on Reddit that don’t exist in the same way elsewhere.

I moderated a mid sized sub for a while. Around 100k users. It was a hobby I was into and I figured may as well moderate because I was spending a lot of time on the sub anyways. It also let me put together some community events which were always fun. Once it stopped being fun and started feeling like a job, I left. I never really thought about it as doing free work for reddit and more helping community building for a hobby I had. People do it for all sorts of reasons. The “power mods” are really the issue.

I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with charging for API access but the amount they’re charging is ridiculous. Most reddit/lemmy apps pay for the imgur api, for example. Only difference is that imgur wants significantly less money than reddit so it’s sustainable for app developers.

Idk honestly. Lemmy is quite an echo chamber in terms of tech stuff especially. I think reddit having much more content of all different types can make it a better user experience for most people. I find it hard to suggest lemmy for the average user who just wants to see memes and discussions based on their hobbies and interests. Lemmy is a lot less diverse.

There are loads of Jews who are against what Israel is doing. The actions of a government don’t indicate the views of a whole ethnicity of people. It’s like calling all Germans perpetrators of genocide.

Yeah, it’s important to remember that wikipedia, itself, isn’t a source, it’s a summary of different sources. It’s a great resource to find sources and get an overview of a topic, though.

I think the one before the current one is my favorite. I feel like the current one is a bit blocky while the previous has a little more detail but still looks good when shrunk down. I don’t hate the current one, though.

Honestly would much rather recommend Fabric unless you’re looking to host a large scale public server. Serverside optimization mods like Lithium and Starlight are great and preserve the vanilla gameplay unlike Paper which breaks or disables a lot of mechanics by default.

As much as I don’t love advertising, it’s mainly just the big corporations that wouldn’t care about a bit of a price lift. Small businesses will be hit disproportionately.

I wouldn’t consider that the portal, itself, imparting the energy, though. It’s just facilitating an environment where an object can fall infinitely. The portal is outputting the same momentum that is inputted to it. The actual increase of energy happens while the object is falling between the portals.

It seems that the etymology isn’t on Wikipedia. I’d assume the name is in reference to sharp lines that you can write or draw with it.

I use duckduckgo and they have bangs. Put !yt at the start of your search and it’ll automatically search youtube, !g for google, !a for Amazon, etc… Loads of bangs for basically every service out there.

I use chrome for work because it’s installed on every computer we have and the machines are locked down so I can’t install firefox if I wanted to. I move around between stations all the time so logging in and having all my bookmarks, passwords, history, etc… synced is convenient. I use firefox at home but most people just stick with what’s familiar to them. It’s a solid browser feature-wise and that’s what most people care about.

I’ve tried firefox but there’s one main issue that I haven’t been able to find a way around. I have a macbook from work and am able to switch between full screen applications with control+left/right arrows or swipe gestures which I use all the time. When I open Firefox in full screen, it seems to lock itself as the full screen application. Anyone know if there’s a way to prevent that? It’s really annoying and just messes with my entire workflow. It’s literally the only reason I haven’t made the switch yet.
