This post is so meta.
This post is so meta.
A fair point. However, reading the OP back, it seems to me that they aren’t dismissing “forever” as success. They are only stating that its not the only acceptable definition of it.
The way i see it, some things that require never-ending commitment to be deemed a success and others don’t, but that’s not how society sees it in general.
I think messages like the one in the post are a good thing to read and think about how they apply to your own life.
They aren’t the cost was arbitrarily chosen 30 odd years ago and hasnt changed in all that time despite there being several free alternatives. Data usage doesnt cost what they charge either. Its all a scam.
If you owned a cup measure you might have some idea.
If a recipe calls for 8 cups of flour you will need a bigger baking tin.
Just buy cup and spoon measures. It simplifies the whole process. You already own metric measures, so what’s the difference.
Edit: What’s all this then? Down votes? How is this not the most effective solution? Did it come off as condescending? That was not my intention.
If the issue is that you dont understand the cup and spoon measurements, then just buy a cheap set of measures.
You learn what a cup is. You dont have to translate american recipes every time you want to make something (which doesn’t translate to nice round numbers anyway) which saves time and reduces stress and you can still use metric measures for anything else.
I would guess use the ones that are sized like most other cups. Like standard mug sized. Although i think its all relative. If you use a certain cup to measure flour, use the same cup to measure sugar.
Otherwise you can buy a set of cup and spoon measures for super cheapnon amazon. They fit in my cutlery drawer.
Are you asking for a friend?
Is that not charcoal?
Its just static electricity. Not dangerous at all and not exclusive to the scramble screen.
Copied from an old reddit post:
Old cathode ray tube (CRT) televisions have an electron gun which fires electrons at the back of the screen. And the screen is coated with phosphorus phosphors which emit light whenever struck by an electron. The side-effect of this process is that each electron increases the static charge of the screen, and over time as the image on the TV changes it increases the charge. Meanwhile, rubbing your hand, which has a slight negative charge, across the screen will remove some of this built-up static.
Wait… clean?
Normal.
I spend th3 first half of being 35, being 36.
No, helldivers 2 but i just looked into road 96 and it looks fun! Would you recommend it?
The point about the chicken mash is not the main point. Merely an observation about the caveat in my main point that the statement about orange chicken being orange and chicken is essentially just listing ingreadients.
Like saying cake is just flour eggs butter and sugar.
Yeah. Orange chicken is just orange sauce and chicken nuggets. Of course it is.
100%, but the context was around overly processed chicken made of “beaks and arseholes” as my mum used to say.
Also, generally speaking, chicken nuggets are low quality reformed chicken. I appreciate that anecdotally your experience is different. I wish i had grown up eating those nuggets as they sound excellent. However, for the majority, I’m certain that it’s the shit nuggets most people were brought up on.
Sorry, what? Err, yes, of course it is… i mean, its not quite chicken nuggets in the fast food sense, its cut pieces of chicken breast fried in batter and tossed in sauce as opposed to mashed up and reformed chicken anythings battered and tossed in sauce so its a little higer quality.
Forgive me, but it’s like saying a snickers is just a mars bar but with nuts in.
Or fries are just potato strips cooked in oil.
But yeah.
Most things are things
Why dont you pay him any rent? Houses are expensive and you are using electricity, water, gas etc. Im sure he would appreciate it if you just decided to pay your way.
Edit: Since im being downvoted i want to add some context.
The tone of the message im responding to (or at least the way it read to me) was that this person is taking advantage of their dad. They said
Why wouldn’t I take the deal to have no rent while I work full time at a decent job so I can pay off my student loans? Sounds stupid to move out at least for me right now
It doesn’t come off like they have discussed and agreed on anything with their dad.
It sounds like they are earning a decent wage and haven’t even considered getting their own place.
It sounds like they want to milk their dads generosity for everything they can so they can have an easier life.
Now ABSOLUTELY i cant be sure and could be completely wrong. But that’s how it reads. Like they don’t give a shit and are acting selfishly and dont even see how its selfish.
To be clear, i dont think the dad should impose rent or any kind of fee on them. I know how hard it is to get a home as a young person, and i likely won’t be asking my kids for rent. I just found the attitude i perceived in that post to be asinine.
And when reddit started it wasnt useful. I dont want to repeat what i already said in another reply but essentially it boiled down to: the only way that lemmy replaces reddit is if people create the communities here and encourage people to move here.
Reddit is great for info but its gotten quite alot worse since the blackout when alot of people deleted their comments in protest. I have had a number of situations where a comment with a bunch of replies saying “thanks that solved it” has beem deleted and my problem goes unsolved.
We all need lemmy to become more popular so it can replace reddit as a massive repository of useful information about everything.
Reddit wont be useful at all in a few more years.
Uk copper network is due to shutdown by (was 2025 but I was recently informed its been pushed back to 2027) so I expect it will all be VoIP soon enough.
