Thanks for the good vibes, internet stranger. Also for spitting straight facts: world always seems to be “falling apart, for reals this time” every other decade since…forever, and yet we’re still here doing the best we can.

Wouldn’t call it harder, exactly (then again, I’m most familiar with XFCE, so kinda biased here lol) since most everything is grouped together either in the settings menu or panel prefrences, and you can just drag and drop whatever you downloaded from xfce look to the desktop apperance and icon list to add them to spice up your desktop, whereas in KDE, which I love, don’t get me wrong. It’s a tinkerer’s paradise, the settings for X, Y, and Z are kinda all over the place
It depends on your instance I believe. I’m on Lemmy.ml, and while it does let me upload on posts, I gotta brute force it at times
Instead of laugh, I’ll clap because it looks pretty good. We all start somewhere, and this ain’t bad at all
Harder, how? If ya don’t mind me asking?
Ah, MATE. The one DE I’ve never actually tried in my Distrohopping days for whatever reason (there was nothing wrong with it or anything, i just never got around to it before falling in love with XFCE). I’ll take your word for it. Heck, maybe I’ll tweak this to resemble MATE more if it’s really “pretty much Gnome 2”
Depends. Do the people around you or your friends/family heavily use WhatsApp to stay in touch (Like, to the point of if you don’t have and use the thing, you’ve basically got no way to contact people)? If yes, well, I wouldn’t go as far as to call you stupid, but you did probably make your life harder for yourself unless you’re a hermit.
Sometimes ya just gotta bite the bullet and understand that absolutes aren’t possible. Or, they are possible, but they’re more impractical than they’re worth
Guessing because the one’s who downvoted saw this as “low effort” that doesn’t tell them anything, really. (There’s no mention of any DE, or what they did to customize it…it’s just the terminal and a request for a wallpaper, really). FWIW, I can see it’s Uwuntu (i think…) would be nice to see the whole desktop tho
Btw, OP, or really, anyone, how’d you upload the image? Everytime I’ve tried it it says the image is too large.
“Decking” brought to mind someone punching someone else at first lol
Still, I’m still firmly on Team Toast NGL (context: someone here suggested the new term be toast, just because)
I just don’t like how you get around in an iphone. Admittedly, I haven’t used Macs in a very long time, so maybe they’re pretty good nowadays (I still hear you can’t upgrade them at all tho, sooo…maybe not?), but most of it comes down to me feeling lost navigating the thing.
The other thing is how expensive Apple Products are in comparison to the competition, and the walled garden thing they got going on. Androids are just easier to move around in, cheaper, and give me more control over my device. That’s the other big thing that steers me away from iphones: I pay more for a “premium” product and get a lack of control over it.
On android: If I wanna not use the Play Store, I can ignore it and use something else, if I don’t like the stock apps, i can look for replacements that do suit my tastes (tbf, I can do this on Apple too, but there isn’t much by comparison), if I wanna install a custom ROM, I can install it, if I wanna root the thing and sideline apps while I’m at it, I can, if I want to brick my phone…I’m an idiot, but I have that option. I can do none of that, or do some of it in a limited way, on an iphone.
Pretty much, I don’t like how unintuitive the UI is, how restricting the system feels to me, and the company’s overall anti consumer stance
No, worries, nothing to apologize for, honestly!
As far as I’m aware, I think just walking away from a sea lion is the best course of action. Except, well, I wasn’t sealioning.
I gave him the chance to explain what I was missing was ONCE(and literally going “I’m not picking a fight or being a smartass, just curious of where my screwup was”), and he just threw “figure it out” at me …tbf, I did basically prove his original statement wrong, so it could’ve been that
At the risk of asking a stupid question: is there a viable alt?
Now that’s art, if I do say so myself
Oh, I’m more than sure this like, a hard two on the scale of “how wild a situation this can devolve into”, but opening as an argument…i mean, is that even an arguement/discussion at that point? (Unless it’s throwing it down when someone shows up to debate you without doing basic research like thatweirdguy1001 commented. That i can understand)
Fair enough, that’s one way to look at it. It is also very easy to waste too much energy on pointless arguing.
Huh, today I learned about sea lioning. Neat!
I agree that people tend to romanticize thier side, even without meaning to sometimes. In this case, I was honestly just confused about the complaints, and when I basically got told I didn’t get some basic concept (no other info as to what said basic concept was), i was like “he’s probably doing this in bad faith but you never know” because hey, maybe I did miss something. I’m not perfect. So I stressed that i wasn’t trying to be a smartass or pick a fight while commenting. Still got told to figure it out when trying to ask for clarification and leaving on a civil note. shrug
I could even link ya the video where I commented so the context is shown
Even the “I believe in you” could seem kinda like the second one lol
You’re probably right that it can depend on the context (I even stated it myself), I’ve just never seen a “kind” “Figure it out for yourself” in the wild. IDK, I’m the type to explain it even if it’s stupid obvious, unless it’s something like “why is everyone mean to me after i insulted them and the thing they liked?” where it’s very obviously a troll, then I’ll be snarky and go “you tell me”
Then nothing will ever improve or get done, because perfection is a myth that varies from person to person and even at it’s base definition (the quality or state of being perfect: such as freedom from fault or defect) is an impossibilty since anything created by man is gonna be as faulty as we are…and for those that choose to follow it, what happens is they become hard procrastinators, because they’re setting stupidly high standards for themselves or others that border on impossible to keep.
There’s a reason why saying like “perfection is the enemy of good/ finished” and “aim for good, not perfect” exist.
Not even gonna touch on morality. That’s a whole other can of worms I’m too exhausted to open.
