Did people call RCS open source? I’m not a huge follower of the standard, but I don’t think I ever heard that said. In fact, I’ve heard people complain about not just the proprietary encryption but lack of E2E and carrier/Google control.

Its only advantages are that it is better than SMS and supported by the carriers, Google and Apple sometime this year.

EDIT: I actually don’t think this is correct. I just went to the sign up page and it does have buttons to create an account using Google or Apple OAuth (I assume) but there is a field under those two buttons for just any email. Put in my Outlook.com email and it accepted it and went to the next page where I could create my user name and password.

That hasn’t been a concern for me since the early days of the modern smartphone era. But I can see it being an issue for older phones with worn out batteries or something.

There is a huge need for Israel to actually prove this shit. I’ve seen only two pieces of evidence that they aren’t just collectively wilding out and killing everyone in Gaza. One piece was a brand new version of Mein Kampf that they swear came from a “child’s living room” whatever the fuck that means. And the other one was blurry images of a Hamas terrorist that might have been beside a hospital.

Israel is in the top 5 of military powers and they’re supposedly fighting terrorists that they’ve fought for decades who have essentially no modern military capability besides on the ground street fighting. If they have intelligence that Hamas is using hospitals, refugee camps, ambulances, the routes Israel said civilians can use for escape, etc, it seems like there would be no risk in releasing that.

It’s put up or shut time. Because all we’re seeing is a bunch of evidence of genocide and war crimes. So show us the evidence or just go full mask off (rather than the 80% mask off that they seem to be doing so far) and just admit that Israel is trying to turn Gaza into a parking lot with all that means for civilians.

Piracy is whatever. Using an old school ass MP3 player in 2023 is unhinged though. I’m sure their phone can do whatever that MP3 player can do just as easily.

I think the argument is that there wasn’t any movement to take control of Hong Kong and replace its basically independent government for years. Until there was.

Same with the whole China Sea expansion. Circumstances can change on a dime and the optimal outcome is if nothing happens.

IDK exactly what the “world” can do here. The Taliban is the legit government of Afghanistan now (well, maybe legit should be in quotes). Do people want another war to take out the Taliban? That didn’t go so well the first time. And there are already sanctions on the Taliban’s government but other countries are still willing to trade with them.

I don’t see any international fix working here. There needs to be internal change. Whether that’s reform, coup, or whatever.

I imagine it wouldn’t be profitable at all, but I would love services like flights, resturants, movies, etc that were adult only. Would be nice to just not have to deal with it.

It’s unavoidable and a part of life you just have to deal with though. You roll your eyes, you turn up the noise cancelling on your headphones and you deal with it. But at the same time, parents should do all they can to keep their kids quiet and well behaved and maybe consider whether flights before their child is even a toddler are the best idea.

I already cancelled my Disney+ subscription earlier in the year. I’m just letting it ride out. After that, I will either do the subscription hopping thing where I only sub when something I want is airing, or just add Marvel stuff to my piracy rotation.

The difference is that you need to subscribe to multiple services now to get everything you want, instead of just one.

If anything, that is low. Cable bills can get truly outrageous depending on what you add. You get an NFL or MLB subscription, a few premiums like HBO and you can have a $200/month cable bill.

This is the best way, but it doesn’t work in every scenario. At my last apartment, I was basically unable to get OTA channels. Too much of the sky was blocked, and I think radio interference from a nearby military base didn’t help.

In my current condo it works mostly well, but I do get some skipping and drops that can be annoying during a long game.
