I only learned to torrent because my dad used to when I was a kid. But these days I use XDCC instead because it’s just so much more convenient. Though to be fair most of my friends who are also GenZ probably don’t know how to do that either.
Like you, I am a living person with memories, emotions, and interests. But from your perspective, I’m just another picture on a screen. Isn’t that concerning?

Mine started showing my cake around 7pm my time on the 12th, but only in desktop. Voyager app hasn’t shown It yet. It has also shown my account as being a year old since early may on both desktop and mobile. Very strange.
Honestly, just follow some Instagram meme pages or browse SoundCloud’s rap playlists. As a young person™️, this is how I’ve always found stuff, including xxxtentacion and lil peep when I was younger and they were both still around. If you’re worried about “invading” our spaces like the other comment says, I think that sentiment is changing. I’ve befriended some older peeps online just for having anime pfps and stuff lmao.
I use a locally hosted frontend.
While I don’t plan on being a parent, I will say that I did learn a good bit about piracy from my dad when I was younger, which kept me away from obviously shady things and now that I’m older I pretty much have a routine in place for my stuff whereas he doesn’t even use a computer anymore. I think it’s worth it really.
wow, I was kind of expecting this to be an exaggeration but you are right. I just checked over there and it’s just memes, news articles, and arguing.
I’d definitely engage if one existed… maybe someone could try starting one up?
if your engine supports Boolean Search, you could try “-reddit.com” after your search without the quotes.
They used to have a definitive tag system and got rid of it, just like annotations and video responses. sad. Of all things, tags were probably the best too. The new algorithmic garbage has sucked for years.
Damn, even some low-key projects like iVanced were hit. I doubt this spells the end of third party apps but they’ll probably go the way of being distributed on various russian download forums or telegram instead.
I go crate digging through soundcloud and bandcamp every so often, once in a while ill play a mix on youtube. Even if I only really like one or two songs on an album, i usually still download the entirety of it because sometimes i like just having songs on in the background if they fit a vibe i’m feeling. This is especially true for me with vaporwave, probably wouldn’t bump it on my commute for example but it can really make me drift mentally if i have it on in the background while say, browsing lemmy or something. And of course for my absolute favourite artists I tend to have almost if not the entire discography.
As a music artist myself, i can say that most sample pack trading is done on private communities and kept way under wraps. I used to begrudgingly use discord servers for this but i’ve managed to stockpile so many by masse downloading that I left them all in the end. though if you just want drumkits there is https://rdx.overdevs.com/subreddit.html?r=Drumkits
I saw the writing on the wall over the summer of 2023. Reddit won’t die, nothing will. I had tinkered with mastodon before but that realisation above is really what pushed me to migrate everything I use to the fediverse. Most people are too stubborn to give up the very things that keep abusing them because they are already established, instead of putting in the effort of engaging with something new. Even yesterday a friend of mine was nonstop complaining about twitter and when I mentioned bluesky and mastodon “oh it’s okay, X is more popular so I’m just gonna stay on it”. I have Lemmy and bluesky for now. I have ecosia for my search and waterfox for my browser. the only thing it’s really hard to get rid of is YouTube, even invidious is just a front-end for it. kinda got off topic but the point is, Reddit hasn’t lost momentum. nothing has or will for a long while. bad changes will keep enshittifying everything.
I try to support physical media when I can because it’s more consumer friendly than streaming exclusive shows. there are a lot of shows I just pirate. these days though my physical collecting is pretty much just manga.
most reasonable corporation
I’m actually quite surprised by this, but satisfied nonetheless.
satellite map.
I have noticed this too. It’s better just to not interact. At the end of the day, I just wanted a better link aggregator than what reddit became and it works nicely for that.
I used to love them. Really I did. Under iwata the company was truly something special for a while. But as with all companies, the fall from grace has been hard. I don’t know a single person with a good opinion of Nintendo anymore. Even a surprising amount of irl people who are not in the know about a lot of piracy and modding stuff seem to at least know enough from recent events that Nintendo are beyond irreparably evil.
