And what housing there is was bought up by investment firms during 2020/21 when people were losing their jobs, or having hours cut, and now more people than ever are paying well over the odds to rent a home because they can’t get a mortgage that would likely cost 2/3 what they’re paying in rent.
But no right leaning/conservative government is going to do a fucking thing about that because too many of them are either landlords, or have funds in those investment firms. So their tame papers run stories about an immigrant family being given a seven bedroom house in a fancy part of town.
2008, the global financial crash, the subsequent shift of trillions of all the currencies towards the already-rich, then Covid hammering the final nail in the coffin of proving that governments care about the people only inasmuch as they provide value.
We’ve had sixteen years of people getting poorer and poorer, shit getting more expensive, and the news outlets they read pointing towards immigrants/gays/leftists as the problem.
The right take those messages and amplify them. They tell people that only they can speak truth to power, when the reality is far more nuanced than that. But people don’t want nuance, they just want to be able to pay their bills. The people aren’t stupid though, they know that the windbags can’t really change anything, but the status quo hasn’t done shit to help them, so fuck it, we’ll vote for the other guy.
“They’re all the same anyway”
It feels to me like the Tories (and their wealthy mates) have now got to the point where they don’t feel they can rinse the taxpayer for much more without everyone seeing them for the craven vampires they are, so they’re happily stepping back for one or two terms.
In that time Labour will struggle like fuck to get the country back to where it was 14 years ago when the Tories walked back into Number 10, the papers will blame Labour for everything being shit, and the door will be open for the Tories to come back in and carry on the pillaging with coffers that are worth the effort.
I’m still salty that Covid robbed us of Dadi Freyr winning in 2020.
Exactly. Get drunk, sit back, and let the madness wash over you.
Bluetooth, while being perfectly adequate, does need to compress/encode the audio. As a result, wired does sound better, though it only really makes a difference if you’ve got headphones where you might notice it.
That thread is still magnificent.
Some very dedicated modders have managed to squeeze bluetooth into their Classics. Personally, I think that undoes the point of having one of the best sounding DAPs, but all power to them for adding some versatility.
And flashmodding a classic iPod can give you 500gb of storage, if you want.
Louis Rossman’s recent video on this is good.
And yeah, my Plex server doesn’t fuck me about the way the streaming services do.
Oh, can you use Plex as a DVR then?
You know, as much as I’m fine with setting sail to find video content that’s hidden behind streaming subscriptions, I’m actually ok with paying £15 a month for Apple Music / Spotify, et al…
I mean, I’d say there’s 99% similarity between the libraries of the big two streamers, so it’s not like you have to sub to both to get all the music you want. I can listen to the same hardcore bands across most of them, and that’s fine. The problem I have is that there’s a bunch of shows on Netflix, another bunch on D+, more on Prime, and so on, and so on. So we’re made to feel that, in order to keep up with cultural discourse, we have to spend out £70+ a month on half a dozen different services.
And nah, fuck that.
All that said, I do download some music, because I want FLACs to convert to 320 aac so I can load on to the iPod I like to use.
If you don’t return those books to the correct shelves though…
No publicity is bad publicity.
I definitely noticed in the immediate aftermath of the Great Enshittening, how the quality of the discourse on subs fell through the floor. The people who left seemed to be the ones that had some level of empathy, leaving shithouses behind to snipe and gripe everywhere.

My word!
My mate Gary who puts them on his enormous Plex server. He’s a good lad.
