Wouldn’t it make as much sense for him to have a Spanish accent?
Father; husband; mechanical engineer. Posting from my self-hosted Lemmy instance here in beautiful New Jersey. I also post from my Pixelfed instance.

The ADL’s response is included in the article. It’s predictably petulant, but they didn’t go that far.
New, official Spider-Man stories get released all the time. What’s stopping the writers from including a school shooting in a plot? Maybe they already have. Maybe school shootings aren’t a big problem in Queens (that’s where Peter Parker is from, right?).
If the price is right water can be delivered anywhere. Conveniently, places that suffer from droughts also sometimes suffer from floods, so it can just be saved for later rather than delivered anywhere.
I have nothing nice to say about the state of Israel, but as an individual you owe it to yourself to live wherever you can that you will be happiest. I can think of reasons to leave the US, including its support for Israel, but I know I would be unhappy anywhere else and my leaving wouldn’t change anything.
From what I understand, the situation in Israel seems especially bad lately. I do not blame any Israeli for wanting to get out or not go back.
I do not include the rider when I get bicycle or motorcycle cycle CAPTCHAs. Sometimes it’s correct, sometimes it’s incorrect.
I don’t know. They seem more powerful.
Yeah, but if I start shouting that in a restaurant I’m going to get everyone’s attention instead of the old lady responsible for my meal.

Oh wow thank you for the detailed analysis.
The Netanyahu government famously traded over one thousand Palestinian prisoners, including some lifers, for a single live IDF soldier. There have also been significant trades just for captured remains. So, the precedent is that Israel will pay a big price to get its people back.
I suppose there is a non-zero chance that Israel decides to forsake the hostages, but I think the political cost would be too high. Also, that would really hurt IDF morale and discipline if there’s suddenly a new policy that they won’t negotiate your release if you get captured.
Something else to consider is that maybe Gaza kind of serves as a perpetual crisis that helps the Israeli hardliners maintain their grip on power. They might still want to keep it around.
Hamas has a lot of hostages now, including some high value ones from the IDF. They also severely humiliated the Israeli military and intelligence apparatus, reminding the world that Israel is not invulnerable and demonstrating that Hamas is a more formidable force than ever, which will help them get more international support. I think Hamas is in a strong position to secure concessions from Israel.
Who are you calling a narcissist here? The Palestinians are under Israeli occupation. The Israeli occupiers put them in this position. Rather, the Narcissist’s Prayer poem fits the Israeli narrative pretty much perfectly.
I take it then that you are a firm supporter BDS despite Hamas’s alleged excesses. I don’t know how the foreign sanctions against South Africa would have happened without a militant domestic struggle, but foreign sanctions aren’t strictly necessary anyway. Afaik, there were no significant sanctions against the UK leading up to the Good Friday Agreement, for example.
Well, that’s just nonsense. Hamas was democratically elected. Furthermore, the only Palestinian representation that Israel and its apologists will accept is one that puts Palestinian interests second.
I mean, the article isn’t wrong in that regard, but somehow it just misses what I think would be an obvious conclusion that doing that to people is fundamentally unsustainable and just wrong in the first place.
Earlier this year an unhinged stranger cussed me out and threatened to assault me in front of my kid. Not sure if that counts as a fight, or a minor fight, but it took me like two days to get over it. I handled it as well as I could have it the moment, but I still just kept replaying it in my head, imagining what I could have done differently. I’m pretty sure that I’m neurotypical.
