I was going to say, I could have sworn someone else had done this before.
Still this just makes me wonder what we could accomplish if we could get everyone the quality of education private schools offer, but as a public system. Finland banned schools from charging fees, meaning they have the same solid level of education for everyone, and it clearly has benefitted them and decreased inequality.
So much wasted potential in our nations, it hurts to see it.
No pretty sure most of them mean “ban guns”. I’ve seen too many “no one wants to take your guns” posts that followed with a “but…”

This has always fascinated me.
A few weeks ago the community manager of the Helldivers Discord got upset and deleted the whole thing. Years of discussions and knowledge (and memes) gone.
Naturally you can’t even bring up the idea that a Discord community takes on a life past its “owner” once it reaches a certain size or level of activity. “Your container, your rules” say the defenders unironically, while not acknowledging that you neither own the “server” nor make all the rules.
The only reason some groups can afford to short stocks is because they expect government bailout if they screw up.
That and they can just kick the can down the road forever, theoretically.
I remember Reddit being the only place to find out which VLAN I needed to put my PVRs through to work with my personal router. Now it’s a struggle to find anything that specific or useful, and it’s getting worse.

With respect to social media, I think Fahrenheit 451 might have nailed that best. Everyone involved in a neverending orgy of ego and drama over dumb shit, most of which isn’t real anyway.

But yeah somewhere between 1984 and BNW sounds right. The government and the megacorporations are not opposed but in fact the very same party. Instead of mood-numbing or happy drugs, it’s sugar and antidepressants. Instead of government watching you it’s corporations selling every part of your identity down to your menstruation cycle. You are kept in line with debt rather than force, which is honestly worse because you put the shackles on yourself, and you do it because the alternative is worse.
Your own special hell.
It’s not immoral to prioritize feeding and clothing yourself, send it.
This is what happens when you give your vote away for free. Make the fuckers fight for it. Organize a group on social media that promises to vote for anyone who can meet your demands and canvas for this group. Get enough people and you can form your own slate even.
All of those things serve a purpose. What purpose does smoking tobacco have?
How so? Communism ultimately describes a society where power is spread amongst the people, while authoritarianism describes a system where power is concentrated at the top. What could possibly be communist about an authoritarian regime?
You know the way the funding system is designed is more-or-less destined to cause this exact effect, right? Struggling schools get less money, which leads to more struggling. The inner-city schools failing is by design.
I’ve been kind of rotating services. I am saving <1gb of configs, game saves, and various other small files. I used Backblaze and AWS cold storage for a bit but that seemed totally overkill, so I started trying out regular consumer stuff and it’s all the same really (for this purpose). OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox… I figured keeping local backups on a different device, and then sending two out to different cloud storage platforms was enough. I backup once a day and keep two weeks worth of backups remote, and one month local. I also manually send a biweekly backup to a friend, and I store his. That’s when I restart the server, do updates, and if I’m unlucky spend a weekend trying to fix whatever broke lol.
As suspected, I am going to be waiting forever.
All countries should be slowly reducing their population if we are to have any hope of surviving long-term.
