Hello everyone, welcome to Theory Thursday! This is a community led project, the point of these posts is to read about 30 minutes of theory every Thursday. Then we discuss with fellow comrades the contents of the reading. This week we’re voting on what to read next.
Previous Reading:
Principles of Communism Part 1: https://lemmygrad.ml/post/939684 Part 2: https://lemmygrad.ml/post/994435
Go ahead and post your reading suggestions in the comments. Tomorrow I’ll post the results, highest upvoted comment will be our next reading. See you tomorrow comrades!
Comrade roux suggested last time to read Wage Labor & Capital it was tied for first so I thought I’d put it up again.
Everytime I get called “comrade” on here it gives me warm fuzzies lol.
Don’t pick it just for me though. I actually tried to get involved in both this reading group and the matrix server one and realized I don’t really have much time to devote besides probably reading y’all’s commentary. I’m mostly gonna probably have to read at my own pace.
I’m glad that made you happy. :) No worries about not being able to participate, life gets busy, I completely understand!
I will still plug Wage Labor as I think it’s a really good one for new theory readers. The first 2-3 chapters do a great job of explaining what our wages actually are so it gets you thinking more in that mindset. The last part gets a bit dense iirc. Even if it never makes it into y’all’s curriculum, I would still suggest reading it. I think it’s one of the more important pieces that I’ve read.
My reading suggestion this week is ‘Thesis on Feuerbach’ it’s a very short read on materialism.
I read Why Socialism? by Albert Einstein recently. A very short read, but very concise in why socialism is necessary. What I like about it, is that he talks about the sociological aspect as well
I suggest Historical and dialectical materialism by Stalin, section 1 about the marxist dialectical method. I think its a logical continuation to principles of communism. Also can we get tagged next post, like makan did on his posts?
After reading this was the first time I truely felt I understood the concepts. Stalin is great at translating ML theory into the simplest terms possible.
You mean like tag people who have participated last? I’m not sure if I’d want to do that, just because I wouldn’t want to annoy people. Sometimes they can’t make it every week, and that’s okay! Maybe if individuals request it I can make that happen, I’m not totally against the idea, I just don’t want to step on toes. I’ll be posting it every week Thursday on c/communism, trying to be as consistent as possible, if I can’t do it for whatever reason I’ll be sure to let people know ahead of time. You can check out my profile if you want to find the latest post. Maybe I can even ask the mods to pin it on the communist community page for the day, if they’d be willing to do that, not sure how that works exactly.
I want to join this reading group so I can read theory more consistently and discuss it with others. Though I definitely plan to read more than 30 minutes a week. Currently, I’m reading The Materialist Conception of History by Plekhanov
I totally get it, 30 min a week isn’t a lot, but that’s on purpose. They say the best way to digest information is a little bit at a time. Plus to be honest, I’ve got a lot on my plate right now, I wouldn’t be able to do more than that a week without it impacting my life negatively. CriticalResist8 has a study guide on prolewiki, GrainEater has a private Matrix study session as well, those are additional places where you can get more theory and discussion.
Thats cool, I’ll add it to my reading list!
Alrighty, thanks!
