Do you have any idea how many news articles we have to read about your insane election system that has campaigning for 3/4 years instead of normal countries that campaign for 2 months? Like the entire campaign seasons of Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, and Spain, take up combined less time every 4 years than the US’s primaries do.

Fair, harassment / trolling in a harassing way is never an ok response, but people are allowed to be critical of too much American content overwhelming a community. Americans may think everything that happens in those 3 campaigning years matter but the rest of the world doesn’t necessarily.

You can block the communities/instances that such content is posted to often, or you can try a content filter to filter out posts you don’t want to see.

Being annoyed at US-centric posts on a US-based social media website is a little silly, I think. I do get it, though

Lol once again an American assumes that things are Amerocentric, thank you for proving my point.

The Fediverse is far from US-centric though. Maybe your instance is, but most people will come from different instances as long as you are federated, and Lemmy itself is an EU project.

If anything, this is an EU-based social media website, Reddit was the US-based one.

I stand corrected. I was under the impression that Lemmy is US-based as well.

I’m not sure about lemmy.zip, to be honest. I think the instance admin is from the UK, not sure about the users, though.

IDK where dessalines and nutomic are from, they get their funding from a Dutch EU initiative targeting FOSS internet initiatives. The EU sponsors all kinds of stuff like this, I’ve seen funding for a FOSS AI stack built on RISC-V hardware. It would be pretty cool if all these initiatives would catch on and bear fruit.

Fair fucks to you, but I don’t think the following-with-a-trumpet meme is the right medium for that kind of nuanced message.
