McGraw graduated in 1975 from Midwestern State University with a B.A. in psychology. He went on to earn an M.A. in experimental psychology in 1976 and a PhD degree in clinical psychology in 1979, both at North Texas State University (now the University of North Texas)
Well “He holds a doctorate in clinical psychology, though he ceased renewing his license to practice psychology in 2006.” So the answer is no. He doesn’t have a license so his name reverts to Mr. Phil McGraw.
I hate the guy, but if you get a Ph.D. in a lot of other fields, you don’t need a license, and you’re still a doctor. I’d argue that if you got the degree, you can be called a doctor. Obviously not a practicing one, but I think you should still have the title.
Again, I hate “Dr.” Phil and would be happy if I never saw his face again.
