What does he really expect? If he wants to play with nukes and threaten ultimate destruction every other week, this is what happens. A local deterrence force ready to retaliate.

These forces are more about containing/controlling China. NK just doesn’t want to be left out of the news.

Violating a country’s airspace seems to be unnecessarily provoking.
Not sure what the best way to handle North Korea is but this does seem like a questionable decision.

Given the relationships between NK and US they could just shoot it down without any warning. So either they couldn’t shoot it, or this is just made up.

I mean… For that threat to be taken seriously, NK would be to be able to shoot those drones down in the first place…

He isn’t going to win a war with the US.

North Korea has something like 3% the PPP-adjusted per-capita GDP that South Korea does and speaks the same language. If the North-South situation ever normalizes, he is going to be out of a job, because North Korea’s population is going to be in South Korea in short order.

He starts a war, he’s worse off. He lets tensions go to zero, he’s worse off. I expect that his best route is to keep things about as they are.

Which is more or less what the Kim dynasty has been doing for a long time.
